ABANDONED 1969 Pontiac Grand Prix Model SJ! Sitting for 20 years
Просмотров 7 тыс.Месяц назад
Too bad I couldn’t see inside… the Model SJ featured a “Fighter Jet” cockpit design, and I would’ve loved to see that… Other Fun facts: The SJ package included a 428ci V8, designed by John Delorean, costed additional $4,962, had more power than a GTO, and weighed less than a Catalina!

I have a Soundesign that I put a while back. I have to fix but most of it works fine. I can only work it for a song or two because the sound organ gets me dizzy! Yes space is difficult. But that is is all an easy fix. Just needs some love!

Since that beauty is in BC, I’m surprised Rust Valley Restorers haven’t got a hold of that. It’s was a beautiful car at one time. An SJ! The pinnacle of the Grand Prix line. I had a ‘70 model J and I loved it. Thanks for the video.

That record player was easily fixable. You just heat the spindle a little bit and the table moves again. A quick disassemble and regrease and it's good as new. Saw this exact model in a Thrift Store in Van Nuys, California... was wondering if this was it, because due to the seazed table, the shoppers broke the tone-arm trying to mess with it.

  • @01chippe

It was not necessary to throw away the turntable. Since you're giving it away to be restored, the person receiving it would have been glad to restore the turntable. Those record changers seize up due to all the dried caked on grease. It's pretty simple to fix.

Oh man.. My uncle Rob had one kinda like that. Different kind of light show but just about the same thing. It reminds me of the console stereos of the 50's or whatever that were basically pieces of furniture that gotta make over at a disco tech. Lol. I do think the one my uncle had was a Sound Design. When I was a kid I thought it was cool but I seen it and tried it out later in life and it looked cool, but sounded like shit. I should make a sleeper stereo out of it. Take the guts out and put Marantz or somebody else's guts in their and put kef speakers or something in their.

Correction, 16 years if you look at license expiration sticker more likely last insured in 2007 or 2008 depending on taking a 1-12 month insurance. It is criminal to leave this car outside, BC infamous "ice age rainforest" wont be kind on classic car with inadequate rust protection.

Thanks for sharing. That’s a pretty cool old Pontiac. Sad that it was not kept up, but there are always typically good reasons. Owner didn’t have the money or passed away etc etc. I think the money it would take to restore it might be too much, but maybe getting it running might not be too difficult.

Nice loophole where I live is after anything sits for more than 3 years it can be claimed a "derelect" You can load it on a trailer, cruise to the dmv, apply for a new registration and a lost title. In about 30 days that car is yours and previous owner can't do a damn thing about it!😁

All original in Showroom condition….sold it once his health declined…. but Ahhh the memories 😢

Thanks for posting this, Richard! I was surprised to see that car because I have a 1970 Grand Prix Model J that is the same color. It has the 400 motor, automatic, and black interior. I've had it since 2001 and it was a one owner car out of West Virginia. I live in Cape Coral, FL and the car is garaged so it's in good shape. A shame about this car, left to the elements!

I don’t mean to insult you but you are obviously not a car guy. The rims are factory original. They were called Rally II wheels. The SJ was an option on top of the basic J. Part of the SJ option was a 428 cubic inch 370 horsepower V8 engine. Some models were equipped with a 390 horsepower version of the same engine.

@@dave1956 hahaha! No hard feelings, cuz you don’t know me, but for the record, I am a car guy, I have 5 collector cars all on collector insurance, with a Collector fleet floater plate. I might not know everything about this particular car, simply because it’s car enthusiasm: the hobby is just as big as a proverbial iceberg - with all details and crevices in between. If you’ve only read my description of this video you’ll probably be able to tell. Thanks for your engagement with my video anyways.

Richard, I am with you. I don’t really know much about these, but if you want to know more about the Grand Prix, I would recommend watching the video below. This guy details a lot about the model and how it came to be. He has very interesting takes and he has videos on so many different cars it’s really interesting to learn from him. He’s cranky too and it’s part of the schtick. He puts on a bit. Just know that going in 😂 PS he might even have one on the Roadmaster. That car is right up his alley. ruclips.net/video/A6I1oI1HvhU/видео.htmlsi=WTDDhKLMGDpnFbes

OMG how badly I wanted one of these! I was 16 and I found a ‘69 SJ at a Pontiac dealer. This was right during the Arab oil embargo in late 1973, early 1974. With 370 horsepower to feed my father said “Are you crazy!” By spring of 1974 the dealer still had the car and the price was down to $1,095.00. I can still remember the car.

He thought I was kidding until I knocked on his door. I took a week of Vacation and drove out there and painted his car for him.
